We have a new shipment of Zegul Kayaks arriving early in 2011. The popularity of the 550 & the 530 have been quite a surprise to us, as they're not exactly our 'style' of ride, however it's easy to understand why the triumvirate of speed, stability & hard tracking is irresistable to many.
The latest catalogue for Zegul is something to behold. I'm sure sea kayak catalogues have never looked like this! Forgetting the super stylish graphics & spreads, there are two models in there that really have our bells ringing.
The Baidarka is an ancient Aleutian design which is credited as the inspiration for the modern surf ski. It's radical Swede form, bifurcated bow & transom stern are a radical departure from the shape of the modern incarnation of a sea kayak. Originally made to be light, fast, and flexible, with frames held by tying together the wooden parts with intricate and spiritual knots braided from tough animal sinew, this baby is all modern shiny technology, made in the beautiful Zegul Carbon Aramide infused layup.
The other boat which has caught our eye is the Zegul 520, another entrant into the rough water playboat category populated by the Rockpool Alaw & the Tiderace Xcite. We have a demo of this one on hand & will be giving it an almighty hiding in whatever surf & bounce we can find.
Keep an eye on our stock page for details of when this new range will arrive, along with a refreshed number of the popular Zegul 550 & 530.

Very nice boat and pictures, but what about the hull? Is it a deep VEE, shallow VEE, round...? It would be nice to see a picture of the keel!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
G'day Alex,
ReplyDeleteThe 520 range have a nice deep keel, but excellent secondary stability. You can see images on our Zegul page at expeditionkayaks.com.
