The idea behind the sea kayaks raciong in pairs was to alleviate the risk from the perception that we are hopeless, based on some bad incidents in races in the past requiring tricky rescues. The finish together thing means you either race alongside one another & finish together, or do what Rob & I did & have one bloke have to wait. I was so off my game that Rob figured he'd have a crack at the ski guys & see just how fast he could go in the Taran, & he did blow through a fair few of the mid packers. Racing in sea kayaking isn't compulsory! It's just another one of the branches of the sport like the Greenland stuff, surfing our sea kayaks, long distance paddling etc that we like to have a go at.Mark Sundinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05603692749315592080noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7966256462371281922.post-53083574767483405832012-03-16T13:41:59.240+11:002012-03-16T13:41:59.240+11:00Mark, I think a field of two could be improved upo...Mark, I think a field of two could be improved upon...not a controversial statement? I believe there was a problem with the promotion of the category...it was not wholheartedly included in the race promo stuff, or in the online registration process. In fact to this day I don't know whether teams of two were a requirement and if so what the rules applying to them were...ie did they need to stick together (which would be a logical requirement from a safety perspective) or simply cross the finish line together which thanks to Rob's good grace was obviously what you guys did. I think racing has limited appeal for most sea kayakers but it might grow steadily as the faster sea kayaks make an impression. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it, and btw well done for the 1 degree paddle, great idea well executed.

Mark SUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05144084987862556917noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7966256462371281922.post-27142541101587622672012-03-01T08:22:59.058+11:002012-03-01T08:22:59.058+11:00Just the two sea kayaks in the race Jules, Rob and...Just the two sea kayaks in the race Jules, Rob and I. ....Mark Sundinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05603692749315592080noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7966256462371281922.post-39894799662299585582012-02-29T23:20:53.273+11:002012-02-29T23:20:53.273+11:00Well done guys looks like you had a weather window...Well done guys looks like you had a weather window, every time I look at the Sydney forecast it says rain, thunderstorms and more rain !
